Thane Creek is truly one of the best-kept secrets for observing birds. One can explore the creek in a boat ride where one can observe a large number of Lesser and Greater Flamingos along with various other birds such as Avocets, Northern Shoveler, Grey Heron, Egrets, Plover, Sandpiper, Black-headed Ibis, Whimbrel etc to name a few.

There are 2 options to do this trip

1) Flamingo watching from Bhandup Pumping Station

Meeting Point: Near Bhandup Pumping Station on Eastern Express Highway

Thane Creek is truly one of the best-kept secrets for observing birds. One can explore the creek in a boat ride where one can observe a large number of Lesser and Greater Flamingos along with various other birds such as Avocets, Northern Shoveler, Grey Heron, Egrets, Plover, Sandpiper, Black-headed Ibis, etc to name a few.

1) From the Bhandup pumping station Side where you get a chance to do a bird walk to see many more grassland birds, as well as other migratory birds apart from flamingos.
There are 14-seater boats.

Trip duration:  Around 2.5 hours

Charges:  Rs 1250 per person on weekends ( including 550 per person boat ride charges)  

For booking 5 to 8 seats, a discounted price of 1150 per seat is applicable  

For booking  9 to 11 seats, a discounted price of 1050 per seat is applicable.  

On weekdays, charges are different for customised trips. 

Kids below 3 years are free of charge. ( Can sit in the lap)

Boat ride Duration: 1 hour.

Total duration will be around 2.5 hours from meeting time to the end of the boat ride.

2) Flamingo watching at Thane Creek from Airoli 

Meeting Point: 

Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre ( exact Google location will be shared)  

Thane Creek is truly one of the best-kept secrets for observing birds. One can explore the creek in a boat ride where one can observe a large number of Lesser and Greater Flamingos along with various other birds such as Avocets, Northern Shoveler, Grey Heron, Egrets, Plover, Sandpiper, Black-headed Ibis, etc to name a few. 

( Other Migratory birds can be seen till March.) 

In April and May, flamingos and other resident birds can be seen. 

Flamingo dance can be a highlight during late April and May. 

Trip details 

Itinerary: 

Meet Wildnest team members near the ticket counter, followed by a brief introduction about flamingos as well as other birds. 

Proceed for the boat ride. 

Our naturalist will help in spotting flamingos as well as other shore birds found there with binoculars. 

Visit the museum. 

Note: Customised tours can also be planned according to availability or time preferences.  

Important Details 

It's important to arrive on time to enjoy the overall experience, as an important introduction, etc., will be given before the ride, and we will be heading early towards the jetty to do some extra 

Birding from Shore.

*Parking is available inside the complex.
