On 3rd December 2019 while going from Kotdwar to Vatanvasa Gate (to take an entry to the Forest rest House at Halduparao) we observed a pair of Yellow Throated Martens crossing the road at a turnabout and stopped the vehicle. We thought of catching their glimpses at the stream flowing down but could not locate them. Somehow i had a premonition that i would find them inside the park.
These are fearless animals and has very few natural predators because of its powerful built, bright colouration and unpleasant smell.
In the afternoon safari on 4th of December while we were coming from the Forest Rest House to Vatanvasa Gate in search of Tiger, we observed a pack of 3 Yellow Throated martens on the main route . We thought of observing their activities as they were aware of our presence.
Two of them followed each other and climbed a boulder in the vicinity and the third one continued to be on the main route. After getting to the top of the boulder they came to the lower boulder and came so close as if feeling the warmath of each other.
I am sharing two of the images taken on 4th December 2019 in the less explored region of the Corbett Tiger Reserve.
