A Royal Enfield-ish trip to Ladakh could be journey of a life time, a soaring-peaceful feeling of life in it’s entirety; in fluttering moments of high speed rumbling of a motor-engine. You need to take NH 21. Bikers like to start their ride from Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Rohtang pass, Jispa, Tanglang-La Pass,Leh, Pangong Lake, Changspa and Leh Sarchu. Wildnest recommends a Royal Enfield ‘Thunderbird’ (500 cc) for a ride to Ladakh. Take rides as long as you feel goes with your body, or go for breakfast rides; if you like short rides. Also, you need to balance the weight of your backpack equally on both sides!
A bike ride across the Spiti Valley adds pulsating excitement to your ride on the Himalayas. You could start your ride from Shimla again, preferably on a Royal Enfield. Before taking a bike ride, ensure you have reasonable fitness to ride on such heights; get a medical check-up done, if need be. Spiti Valley is located at 10,000 ft. The valley touches the Chinese controlled border with a line of Buddhist monasteries! The best time to ride here could be late May to late September (as it is cut off for travel during 6 months of snow)!Enjoy the ride!

You need to go through the old highway – NH-4, as bikes are not allowed on the Mumbai-Pune Express way. You cross Lonavla, Khandala on the way. If you stop at Lonavla, you could get other attractions like trekking, camping, waterfall, farm tours, Tiger’s Leap, the wax museum and the Duke’s nose. Kamshet also comes on the way and the Western Ghats. You could find many bikers taking the biking trip. Keep riding and in monsoon it’s a treat!
From Chennai in Tamil Nadu to Pondicherry is a scenic ride again. You could take the NH-45 from Chengalpattu to Tindivanam, a four lane ride. There is also the NH-49 or the ECR. I recommend the former NH 45, using the East Coast Road for the biking trip. On the route you could cross the Sadras Dutch Fort, Kalpakkam, Jagannath Temple, near Mayajal, Alamparai Fort ruins, Pichavaram Mangrove Forests, Cholamandalam Arts Village, Crocodile Park and Pyramid Temple. Get Tamilish! Wohoo!
Do a biking trip from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati in Assam. You could take a route from Tezpur (Assam), Bomdila and Tawang. From Tezpur to Tawang, it could take 12 hours. The road travel is Herculean and grueling and the road is muddy at places; you need to be careful. The ride though is panoramic.
A road trip from Shillong to Cherrapunji is suggested by Wildnest in the months of Mid-November to Mid-February. You could also be travelling from Guwahati in Assam to Shillong, which is pleasant, but the ride from Shillong to Cherrapunji, certainly is not. The road could be foggy and rain; get yourself aware of the route beforehand. Also, this biking trip is for experienced riders only! The days are short and it gets dark by 5 pm. You must know that Cherapunji is the wettest town in India. Cherrapunji is also called as ‘Sohra’.
From Vishakapatnam, the valley is located at a distance of 120 kms. A good time to visit is after monsoons (probably August.) Also, November to February is a good time.
